Partnerships
To help raise awareness of its services among Ohio healthcare professionals, OhioQuits has developed partnerships with the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA), Ohio Nurses Association (ONA), Ohio Hospital Association (OHA), and Ohio Osteopathic Association (OOA).

Ohio State Medical Association
OhioQuits, has an ongoing partnership with the OSMA to offer cessation information to patients from all walks of life, in medical facilities across the state. As the state's largest physician organization, OSMA's members have the potential to reach a large number of Ohio tobacco users. OSMA recognizes that the advice of a physician can be an integral part of a tobacco user's decision to quit tobacco. Through the "Fax Five" pledge, OSMA and its members are proactively helping change Ohio's culture of tobacco use, one patient at a time.

Ohio Nurses Association
Nursing professionals have a unique opportunity to establish trust and rapport with patients. In fact, a patient who speaks with his or her nurse about tobacco cessation is 50% more likely to make a quit attempt. ONA recognizes the importance of this dialogue between nurse and patient, and has partnered with OhioQuits to infuse healthcare professionals statewide with the urgency of getting this message to every patient who needs to hear it.

Organized in 1904, ONA has been promoting and protecting     nurses, the nursing profession, and those who receive             nursing care for over one hundred years.

Ohio Hospital Association

Ohio hospitals are in a unique position to identify patients who might benefit from tobacco cessation assistance and help them take a first step toward better health. In partnership with OhioQuits, the Foundation for Healthy Communities has helped train 250 healthcare professionals in hospitals throughout Ohio to help link them with the resources available through QUIT LINE. Through this effort, some 45 Ohio hospitals have been certified as Quit Sites, at which eligible patients receive the information and encouragement they need to successfully leave tobacco behind by moving forward with help from Ohio Tobacco QUIT LINE. The Foundation for Healthy Communities is sponsored by OHA, which represents 170 hospitals and 40 health systems with more than 230,000 employees. The Foundation was established in 1994, and its mission is to advance good health for all Ohioans.

Ohio Osteopathic Association
Ohio’s 3,400 osteopathic physicians are dedicated to helping their patients stop smoking and using tobacco products. The Ohio Osteopathic Association was a charter member of the Ohio Department of Health’s Tobacco Control Resource Group and participated in the development of the State’s “Blueprint for a Tobacco-Free Ohio.” It has also endorsed more than a dozen policies on prevention and intervention efforts to protect vulnerable populations and youth from the dangers of tobacco use, as well as efforts to increase funding for statewide comprehensive tobacco programs. The OOA is in a unique position to assist with smoking cessation efforts because DOs comprise more than 26 percent of the state’s primary care physicians. The Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Ohio and the 15 teaching hospitals affiliated with the Centers of Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) are cooperating in incorporating smoking cessation in undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education curriculums.
